Nightstrike's Reviews: Jackaby

Jackaby, by William Ritter, is an interesting novel, that takes place in New Fiddleham, New England, in 1892. This book is more on the side of fantasy than sci-fi, and focuses on the adventures of Abigail Rook, a young girl who is in desperate need of a job.

({[Warning: Spoiler-Heavy Ahead!]})

R. F. Jackaby is an investigator with a likeness to both the Doctor, from the popular BBC series (Doctor Who), and Sherlock (Not the original, but rather the TV series, Elementary). Often times a bit blunt and to the point, Jackaby has caused many to carry grudges and take offense, as seen with Mona O'Conner, who was (according to Jackaby) a "regular woman." Mrs. O'Connor immediately took offense, and began ranting. However, after a few statements, Abigail and Jackaby discovered a banshee, and came closer to discovering who was behind a series of murders. The ending was quite a twist, as the one who was aiding Jackaby in the investigation, was thought to be the killer, but turned out to be innocent.

Overall, I would rate this book a 5 out of 5, and hope to see a sequel soon. I'd recommend this book for any Doctor Who fans, looking for those similar to him.
