Nightstrike's Reviews: Legacy Tarn!

You probably can't see it right now, but I'm shaking as I write this. You have no idea how excited I was for this guy. I've already talked endlessly about Iron Factory's take on the DJD, but there was just one thing that prevents them from fitting in 'seamlessly' into my collection --- they're Legends-scaled. So, when he first got revealed, I was practically jumping up and down. I passed on MMC's due to the head being only an approximation, and likewise passed on FlameToys' iteration because it didn't transform. I don't even need to explain why I'd never get the Ultimates one.

Fast forward, end of February, and my birthday, I was surprised with this handsome fellow.

Robot Mode

Where this thing shines compared to MMC's, Tarn is the IDW design, but with a bit more greebling to fit in with others in the series. The first thing you may notice is the neon magenta clear plastic. Yes, light piping, through some miracle, seems to work, and it is beautiful. In terms of accessories, his trademark Double Fusion Cannon can split into the mount, and the two Fusion Cannons, allowing you to form any number of combos with other accessories thanks to the barrels, and pegs on the back being 5mm. Most often, he's shown with an over-the shoulder twin-cannon situation, but the other popular option is a 'bazooka' you can pop together as well.

Tarn himself has numerous ports allowing for you to armor him up with Weaponizer parts, or even open up the possibility of modular upgrade kits if you're me! Though not a match for the gold, he does look surprisingly nice paired with Black Roritchi as an arsenal. The paint's crisp, the joints are nice and tight . . . and his hands can open!

Tank Mode

Not too much to say here, but it is very pleasing, visually. There are, however, some details worth noting. First and foremost, the turret can turn, unlike Iron Factory's version. Secondly, the hands are indeed exposed, which is, in fact, accurate. Thirdly, the tank mode, lacks wheels, not because of budgetary constraints, but because those are risers to prevent scratching on parts. Lastly? This guy is absolutely getting retooled into Bludgeon. The greebling I mentioned prior? Yeah, much of it is consistent with IDW2 Bludgeon.

Overall

Frankly, there's only one negative with this figure, and I can't even deduct it from the score because he hits every other mark, and exceeds them. Tarn does lack the ability to remove his mask, but he more than makes up for it in terms of playability, poseability, and simply just being that impressive in both stature and design.

Final Rating: 5/5
