Nightstrike's Reviews: Kingdom Airazor

Oftentimes, there are mediocre figures. A few good ones. And some absolutely atrocious ones. This . . . is one of the good ones, at least in my book, so I'll be effectively trashing some of the harsher criticisms of this figure, but for fairness sake, I will address the more valid points.

Beast Mode

Let's be honest, it's hard to get a good bird mode. There's always one or two aspects that don't quite hit the mark. That being said, Airazor's only fault in these circumstances seems to be the exposed robot mode pieces, but given the figure's size, and the endgoal of the designers, it's something I can absolutely forgive. Besides, what matters to me is how fun the figure is, with accuracy as a second priority.

Her wings have some minor detailing which highlights the feathers, and the fluff on the main body has a minor gradient as well.

Perhaps the coolest detail, however, is the fact that the wings and head retain a large amount of poseability. Yes, they can, in fact, tuck in on the sides. And the head can angle quite interestingly as well.

Robot Mode

Here's where the figure doesn't shine AS well. There's a few minor design choices, that prevent this from being a top-notch figure. First and foremost, the face. Like Dinobot's sword, the metallic tone is purple due to the reference image that was used in planning her deco. Not exactly optimal, but it does set her apart from other avians more.

The other minor nitpick I have would be the ankles, which are on balljoints, as opposed to the increasingly standard hinge joints. On my copy, they're fairly loose, making the figure a little tricky to pose. That being said, it also widens the range of articulation, Something which very few deluxes and voyagers outside of the Fossilizers can pull off.

The wings, in order to mimic the show model, can collapse down into a lighter silhouette, but she still can retain her impressive wingspan if you leave them unfolded.

The only other criticism I've heard that's worth mentioning here, would be the arm-mounted "blasters." In order to convert her into bird mode, they plug into the figure's hips, thus making others concerned about partsforming. However, if it's too much of a bother, they can be put aside as the accessories they are, or simply left on the hips for both modes.

Overall

Honestly? I'm not as fussy as some of my fellow fans. That being said, is she perfect in my book? Not quite. But that doesn't stop the figure from being fun, playable, and easily recognizable.

Final Rating: 4/5
