After having read Death Du Jour, by Kathy Reichs, I was interested in checking out more of this series. As you can expect, though . . . I'm not reading these in order. Yeah, spoilers for me. As it stands, though, I'm not overly bothered by it. I can slowly piece together a sense of continuity as I go along, and for those of you who have been around on here for a while, you're probably also aware that I did not read the IDW continuity (Transformers) in order either. What caught my eye, while reading this, was the casual reference to COVID-19, which is a bit unusual. Often times in novels such as these, the focus is on establishing a separate 'universe' for worldbuilding, so real-life comparisons are usually based on historical events, rather than present-day circumstances.
It made for a quirky reference, however, so no points off there.
The overall premise of the novel is also pretty interesting, bringing focus to a long-abandoned case as bodies show up in a similar manner to long ago. Others are skeptical, but Dr. Brennan begins to notice similarities between the murders, beyond the obvious arrivals of the bodies.
But why so far apart in time, and what connects Montreal and Charleston?
I, once again, highly recommend this! It was a fun read, and there were quite a handful of suspicious characters.
Overall Rating: 9/10
