Nightstrike's Reviews: Mark of the Thief

Mark of the Thief is, for those who are curious, a great book. This is yet another refrain from my usual, as it takes place in Rome. I had forgotten it was part of a series, and was confused at the ending, but then realized, that it would continue.

I am not quite sure how many books are in this series, but I look forward to seeing more from it. For those who have not read this book, or even heard of it, Mark of the Thief is about Nicolas Calva, a slave in Rome, and his adventures. In short, he attempts to escape, and is forced deeper into the mines, to extract a magical bulla(which belonged to Caesar, and many have died trying to get it from the mines.) but encounters trouble. Said trouble comes in the form of a griffin, that marks him with the Divine Star (If you haven't read the book, then I suggest reading it . . . ), and the cave collapsing. Nick escapes the cave through another exit, and gets to enjoy the calm of a lake, but then guards find him and he is escorted back to the mines, and whisked away to compete in the 'games.' Shortly after, he discovers the powers of the mark on his back, and the bulla. However, there are others that would kill for the power, and his allies are (no offense) to naïve to know who truly is the enemy.

Overall this book gets a 5 out of 5, and I expect the rest of the series to be just as great. I'd recommend this series for anyone looking for something with lots of action, and clever plot-twists.
