The False Prince, book 1 in the Ascendance Trilogy, is definitely a favorite of mine. Normally I try to go for modern-era books. However, since I heard so many good reviews for this book, I simply had to read it. For those of you who have never read this book, The False Prince takes place in the medieval-esque land of Carthya. It's about Sage, the main character, and three boys who are recruited by Conner, a nobleman, to impersonate Prince Jaron, the long-lost son of King Eckbert. However, this is where things really get interesting . . .
({[Warning: Spoiler-Heavy Ahead!]})
The four boys were chosen for their similarities to the long-lost prince. Sage is clever, Roden is skilled with horseback and swordsmanship, Tobias is intelligent, and Latamer WAS kind. Unfortunately, Conner had Cregan, his servant, kill Latamer in order to make them understand the "seriousness" of his plans. At first Roden and Tobias are excelling, because it seems all Sage wants to do is get in trouble. However, both Roden and Tobias have their own plans. Tobias was plotting to kill Conner, were he to become king. Sage happens to have a secret of his own, though, as he truly is the long-lost prince. Once he becomes king, though, Roden attempts to kill him.
Overall, I would give this book a 5 out of 5. Now get off your laptops and start reading this!
