Yes, another Patterson book, though this one is fairly older. Coauthored by Michael Ledwidge, this one gave me mixed feelings, as the two styles were greatly different. I'll keep this brief, as there are serious plot points that I'd run the risk of spoiling that could practically give away everything.
Right away, the cover jacket's teaser text, "Something Bad Is Happening Out There . . . Something Very Bad.", and the name of the main character, Jackson Oz, are a bit of a tease. (Wizard of Oz)
However, that's about where the homage ends. Animal attacks are escalating worldwide, and it seems as if humans are becoming endangered. Behaviors are changing drastically, and the ecosystem is completely compromised. Jackson Oz, a young self-proclaimed biologist (Hadn't finished med-school, because of research), has discovered that humans are effectively causing these changes, but not a single soul will listen to him . . . until it's too late.
Style-wise, the differences between Ledwidge and Patterson are fairly obvious. Patterson opts for more eloquent descriptions, while Ledwidge is more personal in them, often using crude language to convey points. As such, some areas were difficult to follow, but generally the flow was consistent.
