Nightstrike's Reviews: Vector

There comes a time when one wants to try a new author, and in my case, James Abel was that author. I did not do much research into his series, so I essentially went in not knowing what the book was about. Vector is a bit of a departure from the normal approach to protagonists that I read about, but we'll get to that shortly. Vector takes place in modern (Pre-COVID-19) times, when the larger concern was malaria, as is evident from the name. From what I gather, Joe Rush is an ex-soldier with minor medical experience, who travels to less fortunate areas to help treat diseases running rampant. Right away, one gets the sense that this book is going to be an international romp. In some ways, it is, but not as widely spread as one might think. Over the course of the book, Joe Rush travels from the Amazon to the US to stop a deadly new strain of malaria that is being used for terrorism, as a result of negligence on the part of outreach programs. Rush, as a character, is a lot less morally sound than, say, Alex Cross, but still makes for an interesting read. I recommend it if you are impatient for the next book in the aforementioned series and need some action to distract you.
