Nightstrike's Reviews: Transformers Earthspark, Part 1!
So with a new year, there's thankfully new Transformers media. To kick it off, we're getting a series for all ages in the form of Transformers Earthspark, which primarily airs on Paramount+ and then Nickelodeon. As the series has only just begun, I don't have too much commentary, but if you don't want spoilers, I'd advise you to skip past this post for now.
The series starts off pretty strong, debuting not just the usual main Autobots, but also Swindle, and wait for the deepcut reference . . . Hardtop! Yes, that Hardtop, from Cybertron, who appeared in a grand total of zero other forms of media. So it's nice that Swindle's got a partner for his cons now. (Excuse the pun)
Then we see Elita-1, with a well-integrated Hummer alt-mode, as well as Optimus with a meme-worthy face. Following that, we meet the main feature of this series, the Terrans, a hybridization of Cybertronian and Human genetics. Twitch and Thrash are intriguing design-wise, and definitely stand out among the crowd.
As the show progresses, though I must confess, I'm only 5 episodes in, of the first 10, we end up seeing more characters, some truly involved, and some just neat cameos. We see B-listers like Skullcruncher appear in scenes like token bots such as Bumblebee, and perhaps some of the more unusual pairings as it goes on!
Perhaps most surprisingly, is the fact that Megatron is not the series' main villain. That role falls to Dr. Meridian, a disgraced scientist intent on wiping Cybertronians off the face of the Earth.
All in all, I'm excited to see what else the series has to offer, and hopefully we see some of the more unique characters as well!
