Yeah . . . I probably shouldn't be starting with the second book in the series, but well, I honestly had no clue about this book at the time.

The Lost World is part of Michael Crichton's 2-part series which went on to inspire an ongoing film series. The potentially final installment of this series, a sort of Avengers-Endgame-esque take on the theme. Unfortunately, we do not have much information on the premise of the film, other than the events of the previous films.
Warning: Spoiler-Heavy Ahead!
Now, let's delve into this shall we? The Lost World is set in the original timeline Crichton envisioned, many years after the failure of the original Jurassic Park island. Richard Levine, a wealthy paleontologist, has latched onto the Lost World theory, much to the chagrin of his acquaintance, Ian Malcolm. Unbeknownst to Levine, however, Malcolm is a resident survivor of the original park's disaster, and is not inclined to indulge Levine. Unfortunately, he doesn't have much of a choice, as Levine goes off to Costa Rica in search of these 'aberrations.' He soon finds himself in over his head, and in need of assistance.
The rest of the book is essentially Malcolm trying to keep Levine from getting himself killed, as well as his top 2 students apparently having hitched a ride to the island as well. If one were to strip away the gruesomeness that marks most of Crichton's writing, it would make for quite the comedy.
Malcolm is the only one with any idea what's going on, and Levine's two students are surprisingly more mature than Levine himself. The book wasn't one of the best I've read, but considering the author and his style, it still has quite a bit going for it.
Overall Rating: 8/10
