3 days ago, I just turned 18, and for my birthday I received quite a few surprising gifts. Among these is what's probably the rarest Studio Series figure ever: Long Haul. With this chunky green guy, my main set is now complete, but is he all he's cracked up to be? I say 'yes.'
Alternate Mode
While this part often tends to be the weaker aspect of a construction-themed design, Long Haul still pulls off a really convincing unlicensed dump truck, with all the usual mechanical details you'd expect. The bucket does not raise and lower, but to do so, a lot of the design accuracy would have to have been sacrificed in favor of costs. My only problem, likely limited to just my copy, is an unevenness that means the front and back halves of the vehicle mode are bent inward a little, but it doesn't detract from the vehicle mode's appearance.
'Bot Mode
This is where most of the focus on the design went to, with the exception of the team's combined mode. The face for this brute is delightfully horrifying, and fits perfectly with the other monstrous members of his team. In terms of subtler details, the arm panels have small details meant to represent the missiles he is described as having used. The only issue with posing Long Haul lies with the ratchet joints in the hips, which have a lower range of defaults than I'd like.
All in all, this guy is neat, and absolutely necessary if you want to complete the giant beast, and Hasbro's most ambitious project yet. I highly recommend this set, as the figures themselves are just so versatile.
Stay tuned for a look at the combined mode on our socials!
