Nightstrike's Reviews: Legacy - Velocitron Override

Writer: Nightstrike Nightstrike

Now normally I try to focus on figures that fit a certain theme, such as the Weaponizer gimmick, Micromasters, or even just Combiners in general. However, this one I couldn't pass up despite not fitting very well. Override first debuted in Cybertron, the third installment in the very loose Unicron Trilogy, and served a fairly significant role, given her status as the designated leader of Velocitron. In Galaxy Force, the Japanese counterpart to this show, Nitro Convoy (called so due to the tradition of most leaders possessing the Convoy name) was male. Regardless, the former interpretation is more common in the fandom, so that's what I'm sticking with here.

Now, for this review's title, yes, I shortened the reference name. Why? Well...

Transformers Legacy (Walmart-Exclusive) Velocitron Speedia 500 Collection Voyager Class Autobot Override(Nitro Convoy) kinda' breaks the character limit.

Robot Mode

With this figure, it's kind of a case of what you see is what you get. Is that always a bad thing? No, and definitely not with this. Override is very much a modernization of the original Cybertron design, but with a few obvious twists.

She's a lot more proportionate than the figure her show model's based off of, and she retains compatibility with modern gimmicks such as the Weaponizer loadout option and blast effects. Her blaster's actually quite similar to the original's appearance, but without the spring-loaded feature. I suppose that's for the best, as it was annoying to make use of it if you've lost the Cyber Key. The interesting bit, however, is the fact that you can make use of a key with the new one! The slot at the back is a perfect fit for the key.

Now, as for differences between this and the old one, there's quite a few. The blaster and feet lack gold paint, the barrels on the gun are thicker, the shoulders aren't as broad, and the figure can hold a pose significantly better.

Vehicle Mode

Override turns into a distinctly made-up model of racecar, but that doesn't stop her from looking cool! While the canopy does take getting used to, her engineering is clever, leaving both modes quite satisfying. The decals are somewhat different, but the car mode remains virtually identical.

Overall

Side note, yes you can still store the blaster on her back, thanks to the transformation scheme. But regardless, this is an excellent figure, and although it lacks any additional features, it's fun to mess around with.

Final Rating: 4.5/5
