So, it's been a while since I've written anything here. Thankfully, though, I can get back into the groove with both my designs, and advocacy, so hopefully I'll be more active. The first of my updates, I wanted to revisit this first Micromaster pair, as it had a few flaws. Unfortunately Shapeways has spiked their prices yet again, so I'm now barely turning a profit, but income isn't what drew me to design -- it was the option to create my own ideas, my own concepts, and breathe life into them. While still not exactly Injection molding -ready, they're now largely equivalent to more standard garage kits. Here's a rundown of the changes made:
Tightened joints: 4.8 mm ball, 5.0 mm socket --> 4.94+0.02 mm ball, 5.0 mm socket.
Open hands: 3mm compatible, and surprisingly tight grip despite being open.
Corrected Geometry: Glitched segments where geometry hadn't merged properly, with a 0.01 mm separation.
Accessories: Microphone, speaker, and microphone stand, which can be connected via copper wire or some alternative.
If I ever revisit this one in the future, I'll further make it mold-ready, and also include knives for Flipsides as well as flip-out pegs for "shield" modes. For now, though, I'm at least satisfied with the design, which can be found here:
As you can see, we've reached another price increase, so at this point in time, I'm considering alternatives to Shapeways. Chief among them, Cults3D, where users will be able to print things for themselves, or order from their own outlet of choice.
Regardless, there will be more updates on this situation for the next iteration of NS-001-1 Bludgeon! In the meantime, feel free to check out our assorted projects!
