Nightstrike's Reviews: The Rest of The "Wayward Pines" Series (And a Minor Update!)

I'm not kidding when I say I'm a fast reader! These two, like the previous one will be short, because I'm going to be devoting a good deal of time to Project Combination's wave 1, but I'll do my best to address what happens. (This is very weird for me. I normally don't write reviews for other books in a series, as I leave that up to the reader but, seeing as I've hit a bit of a streak, why stop now?)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Warning: Spoiler-Heavy Ahead!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Part 1: Wayward
Continuing where Pines left off, Ethan Burke is now the sheriff of the "quaint" town of Wayward Pines, and is aware of what's really beyond the fence. A solid 90% of the people in Wayward Pines have absolutely no idea that they are 2000 years ahead in the future, and that the families they are desperate to return to are long gone. Acting almost as an enforcer for David Pilcher, the man behind the suspended animation (that preserved the 400+ people now living in the isolated town), Burke is tasked with overseeing the townspeople, and helping newly awakened people become integrated. However, things aren't going quite as he would have hoped when Pilcher has him infiltrate a small "rebellion." While the individual books are not great stand-alones, because the overall plot conceals whatever the focus is on in the individual novel, the whole story is fascinating, and has quite a twist, which I might (or not) address in the final review for the trilogy. The story is well-written, and makes use of flashbacks to build up character, and blur the lines between good and bad a bit. I was never a fan of stories that had completely good and completely bad characters, as it fails to show any actual depth to them, hence why this series was satisfying.
Overall Rating: 4.5/5
Part 2: The Last Town
The Last Town is not what one would call a "thrilling conclusion." That implies there's some end to the reintroduction of humankind in a harsh environment, where everything is out to kill. That would make the whole reintroduction thing a bit . . . redundant. Instead, I'd call this the shocking conclusion of a series. Seeing as I don't what to spoil too much for this, instead I'll take a look at the characters.
First off, we're introduced to Leven, the "steward" of the project. A bit of an interesting character, though he didn't get much development. He's certainly more 'together' than Pilcher. The other major character that I haven't mentioned in the previous reviews, is Hassler, Ethan's handler. His name's quite fitting, as he had some involvement in the project, and plays quite the role in Ethan and Theresa' relationship towards the end of the book.
Overall Rating: 4.5/5
I have a few new joint tests in the works, and a little surprise for the Shapeways shop coming soon. For those wishing to contact me more directly, or see the latest news and teasers, I'm setting up a Discord channel for Terminus Industries where product updates and preorders will be handled, at least until the Facebook shop is set up. Stay tuned!
