Nightstrike's Reviews: Double Review! Rest Of The Mortality Doctrine Series...

Let's just get this out of the way, and drop a big 'ol:

WARNING: Spoiler-Heavy Ahead!

It's been a while since I've done a review. Heck, it's been a while since I made edits to this site. I apologize for going "radio-silent" there, but I've been having difficulty finding time to work on the site, with school having started up again. These two books that I'll be reviewing, are:

>The Rule Of Thoughts

>The Game Of Lives

Let's start with The Rule Of Thoughts. It continues with a very minor time-skip, after Michael finds out he is a Tangent. The beginning is very confusing, especially since it implies that the meeting with Agent Weber was a while ago, but then puts an emphasis on a sudden necessity to blend in. It seems like a very rushed opening, but does a good job at continuing on the whole "Mortality Doctrine is going to end humanity" thing.

Now let's look at The Game Of Lives. This book seemed more like a request, rather than an actual plan from James Dashner. It does a decent job of tying up the story, but how it gets there, is rather questionable. In The Eye Of Minds, Dashner suggests that Kaine is a sort of all-powerful being, while in these later two books, it depicts him like an average guy. Furthermore, his human-copy, is still alive and he has albeit dropped off the grid, both in real life, and in the VirtNet.

Now I don't want to sound harsh, or anything, but these two, as a continuation of the first, were a little disappointing, in terms of certain plot points. It took nearly a whole book, for Michael to establish that Agent Weber was a traitor, an only at the end, did we finally see action. Meanwhile, Kaine, who is seemingly everywhere, and is one with the VirtNet, is now just a regular guy who barely is able to hold his own. It's almost ironic, really. I do recommend these two for anyone who dislikes a sudden ending (since that's what The Eye Of Minds had) and wants to see all those loose threads tied back up.

Final Rating: 4 out of 5

P.S. you can expect to see a progress update for Project Combination coming soon. I'm currently working on the first of the customizable figures, and then I'll test the basic combiner frame.
