Nightstrike's Reviews: Incarceron

This book is another one that you should really consider reading. Incarceron mainly focuses on two characters, being Finn, an amnesiac and captive of the massive prison, Incarceron, and Claudia, the Warden's daughter and next in line for the throne.(I guess you could say that Incarceron really is focusing on them, after all!)

Warning: Spoiler-Heavy Ahead

The first thing that strikes some as odd, is the fact that the setting is almost medieval, yet there is plenty of technology. It should be noted that this is, in fact, a sci-fi dystopian novel. It will, however, take you a third of the time reading it, to figure out what's going on. If you don't want to spend your time figuring out what exactly is happening, Here is the short version: The government, after years of war, due to technological advances, decided that things would be better off without said tech. They based life off of a medieval time period, and outlawed technology. However, there are still those allowed to use this tech, namely the Warden, and Sapients, a select few who acted as advisors, tutors and an assortment of other roles. The Warden was tasked with overseeing a prison called Incarceron. Incarceron was built to house many political prisoners, but it soon became an experiment, to see how different things would be in this enclosed world. Incarceron, in and of itself, is massive, but each molecule, each atom is a billion times smaller. It is a cube. However, Incarceron, due to its artificial sentience, has become twisted, harassing the prisoners that wander its seemingly endless halls and paths.

This book is quite amazing, and I haven't read anything quite like it. The story was rich with well-written characters, and I can't wait to begin the next book in the series, Sapphique. The only thing that would give it a perfect rating, is if the background information was introduced earlier. The author leaves a lot to be inferred by the reader.

Final Rating: 4.7 out of 5...
