Nightstrike's Reviews: Sweet Bunny (Redux) / Lagusta's Luscious Commissary and a few good ea

So nice, we tried it twice!

A return trip to New Paltz, NY at the end of February meant a second go-round with some old favorites, as well as a few new tastes!

First stop, and a definite recommend for gluten free baked indulgences? Sweet Bunny Bakery! With a two-hour drive behind us, we were in dire need of sugar and the bakery case did not disappoint! The mini cupcakes we'd enjoyed the first time around beckoned, so we opted for two: strawberry and salted caramel. Then over to the next shelf for carrot cake. And up one row to the eclair cake.

First things first, this place knows gluten free baking, and I highly recommend going. The texture and flavor of each item is superior. Baked in house, from scratch, the cakes and cupcakes are delicious and fresh. The only unfortunate thing about this visit, was that the recent batch of gluten-free frosting mix they were working with was saltier than usual, and it certainly changed the taste significantly, most noticeably on what should have been a sweet cream frosting for the strawberry mini-cupcake.

But that little oversight was soon forgotten, when I tried the carrot cake.

Carrot Cake...What's up, doc?

Fresh, moist and so flavorful! So good!

The winner though, hands down (or forks down!) was definitely this eclair cake. Out of this world! So delicious!

After indulging in sweets, I headed off in search of something to wash it all down. Lagusta's Luscious Commissary, a little tea/coffee shop (and cafe) has some unique and altogether delicious options. I went with my usual espresso, which is served with sparkling water and a small chocolate to cut through the natural bitterness. Having seen on the menu a drink that came with lavender whip, I inquired and was disappointed to hear that they had just run out. But, the kindly staff member suggested I consider a custom-made drink to satisfy my lavender craving, as she had just a few teaspoons of lavender buds left...a lavender steamer! Sold!

She whipped this up for me in a matter of minutes: steeped lavender buds, steamed almond milk and just a dribble of vanilla syrup.

And when I thanked her, she went above and beyond, writing down the "recipe" for me to take home and recreate!

Enjoy the amazing service, and delicious drinks for yourself:

Other foodie highlights include:

>The Village Tea Room (10 Plattekill Avenue) which has a number of gluten-free items on the menu and was an ideal spot for lunch. Ask to sit upstairs and avoid the volume if it's crowded. And do try the kale salad. The maple bacon dressing is amazing!

>The Cheese Plate (10 Main Street) for a make-your-own cheeseboard.

>Kosiner Brothers Fry Shack (10 Main Street) where you'll want-No, Need!-to indulge in the poutine. Go ahead and top your's with the black truffle sea salt...it's beyond worth it!
