Nightstrike's Reviews: Transformers - The Last Knight

TLK was an -- How shall I put this? -- interesting installment in the movie continuity. Let's start with the characters. Megatron had a unique design, with almost barbaric features, and a neat battle-mask. He differed a lot from the earlier movies, as he wanted to simply restore his home-world, and for some strange reason was indifferent about humankind. Barricade, had more of a police motif going on, such as brass knuckles that either said "Serve" and "Protect," or "Punish" and "Enslave." He also had a shotgun, nightstick, wrist mounted gatling-gun device(?) and a more humanlike voice. Many new Decepticons joined the ranks as shown below:

>Berserker: Violent, Cruel, bears resemblance to the Dreads from DOTM

>Dreadbot: Similar to Berserker, but turns into a VW Bus instead of a black van

>Nitro Zeus: An amiable, yet somewhat sadistic 'con who bears resemblance to Shockwave, but turns into a bomber plane, and knows where you live. Tell your wife he says 'Hi.'

>Mohawk: 'Con equivalent to Wheelie, from ROTF. Turns into a motorcycle, and has a green mohawk.

>Onslaught: More like a brute than his previous incarnations. Thinks TRF needs a bigger door. Converts into a green truck, rather than a military assault vehicle. Has a massive claw-hand.

>Infernocus: An ugly mess, according to Optimus. A more uniform combiner, as the individual units possess linked minds.

The Autobots also had new additions to their team, as well as changes being made. Hound went from being a green truck to a tan missile launcher, while Drift became a certain red and black car. Crosshairs stayed as his usual self. Bumblebee could pull himself together, as was shown in the scene where he was blown apart, and then bounced back together. He even gains his voice. The most notable change was Optimus working for Quintessa, who appears to be a gender-swapped amalgamation of Quintus Prime, and Liege Maximo. He also began calling himself Nemesis Prime. Below are the new additions to the Autobot team:

>Daytrader: A fat 'bot who sounds like Wheelie, and carries a massive mound of scrap parts. Bears resemblance to Hound. Ran away after giving Bee a voicebox, that sounded like Siri. (Imagine Siri swearing)

>Cogman: The continuity's first Headmaster. Prone to fits of rage. We never got a chance to see his body, as he left it behind, while on the run from TRF.

>Mini-Dinibots: Strange chibi versions of their larger counterparts. How did they come to exist? Who were the parents?! And why was one fetching beer for Cade?

>Hot Rod: Black and orange lambo with a French accent, and a time-gun.

>Topspin: Back from DOTM, playing volleyball. Has a pot-belly, and beard.

>Canopy: Alt-mode is a pile of rubble. Has fish-lips.

>Trench: A yellow Excavator who looks like a constructicon.

>Wheelie: back from DOTM.

>Bulldog: A WWII tank who suffers from "Robot-dementia" according to Edmund Burton

>"Hurricane Autobot": turns into plane

>"HMS Alliance Autobot": turns into exactly that. helped them find the Knight's ship.

>"Northrop Autobot": N/A

The movie finally introduced Unicron, as well, and he turns out to be the Earth itself. Quintessa wants to eliminate Unicron, and ultimately Earth, so she can rebuild (and rule) Cybertron. It was quite fitting that she was dubbed the Great Deceiver.

Some of the humans from previous movies made an appearance, alongside new characters, such as Sir Edmund Burton, and Viviane Wembly. Cade Yaeger was part of the resistance, While Simmons has somehow survived since the Chicago incident. Lennox was back, which was rather confusing, as N.E.S.T. (Nonbiological Extraterrestrial Species Treaty) was disbanded. And Cybertronians were declared illegal, and branded as terrorists.

Overall the plot tied some things together, despite the poor beginning, as it jumped from scene to scene. However, it left fans with many questions, such as the fate of many of the characters, and who the "creators" are. One of the more "peculiar" things, was the watch that killed Hitler. How did that come into the hands of Edmund? So, in conclusion, I give this movie a 4 out of 5, as the script made it seem like the writers weren't . . . in the best state of mind. If you are a "Bayformer" fan you probably will want to see this new installment. Also, we got our second Pretender in this continuity! Quintessa, in the end, walks through the desert offering a man a way to put an end to Unicron.
